Description<\/strong>
\nIt is a plant used for food in parts of South America and Asia. The rhizomes are edible (underground stems) and the leaves are used as a vegetable, especially the tenderest leaf that remains rolled. It is also used for its beauty and its adaptation to interiors.\nIt can reach up to 5 m in height. It is grown indoors and outdoors in warm climates because of its large green leaves. \nThe latex that comes out once the leaves have been cut can cause skin irritation.\nThe whole plant contains calcium oxalate crystals which irritate the mouth and skin and can cause oedema.<\/p>\n

Cultivo y cosecha<\/strong>
\nTo plant alocasia we can use a piece of disc from the stem, the buds, or the 'tillers'. It germinates in different soils: acid, dry, heavy and wet. In loose soils, the planting depth is 18 cm, while in heavy soils, it is necessary to dig about 12 cm. It grows quickly as it adapts to different climates (medium and warm) and is well adapted to shade. \nFor harvesting, it is necessary to wait at least five months after cultivation, because the plant has to reach a certain weight and height. The small leaves have to weigh between 100 and 200 grams, the medium ones about 662 grams, and a mature leaf weighs up to one kilogram. This maturity is reached after two years; it is then that the stem can also be harvested, which will have reached a height of two metres and weigh between 12 and 25 kg.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
