It can be easily grown from seeds which are toxic and can be dangerous to livestock; toxicity is related to bioaccumulation of selenium in the leaves but mostly in the seeds.<br \/>\nThe stem of I. carnea can be used for paper making.<br \/>\nThe plant is also of medicinal value. It contains a component identical to marsilin, a sedative and anticonvulsant. A glycosidic saponin has also been purified from I. carnea with anticancer properties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ethnobotany<\/strong><br \/>\nDiferentes extractos de la planta I. carnea poseen actividades antibacterianas, antif\u00fangicas, antioxidantes, anticancer\u00edgenas, anticonvulsivas, inmunomoduladoras, antidiab\u00e9ticas, hepatoprotectoras, antiinflamatorias, sedantes y de curaci\u00f3n de heridas.
